Pauwela Cafe

Pauwela Cafe is a new breakfast stop before you drive the road to Hana in addition to the popular Charley's in the town of Paia.

Even if you eat out for breakfast you can still get an early start on the Hana Highway - on weekedays the Pauwela Cafe opens for breakfast at 7AM.

This Maui restaurant is also a good place for lunch if you are watching big wave surfing at Jaws or windsurfing at Ho'okipa Beach Park.

The tiny Pauwela Cafe, with a few tables indoors and out, has a strong local following for many reasons. Three local boys purchased this well-loved cafe in 2004.

Chef Brandon Shim (formerly with Tommy Bahamas in Wailea) has learned well. Nearly everything in this tiny cafe is made from scratch.

Because this cafe is located in an industrial center of sailboard and surfboard manufacturers, you may find a surf legend dining at the next table.

Breakfast $4.25-$8.50; lunch $5.25-$9.50

After Mile Marker 12 on the road to Hana (Highway 36), take the third right turn onto West Kuiaha Road. Go about 1 1/2 miles on West Kuiaha Road to the Pauwela Cannery on the left.
