Hawaiian Monk Seal

We got off our 'whales only' focus before we even left Lahaina Harbor - a Hawaiian monk seal was just floating around in between the various boats leaving the harbor. Our guide was more excited than us until he explained how rare a sighting of this endangered species is on inhabited parts of Hawaii. See our video of the monk seal at the bottom of this page.

This encounter at Lahaina harbor piqued our interest in the Hawaiian monk seal. When we went to the Maui Ocean Center, Erin was able to learn more at an exhibit dedicated to this endangered species.
