Sugar Cane Train Kaanapali - LahainaThe restored vintage steam locomotives - Anaka and Myrtle are real beauties.You cross a ravine along the train tracks on a wooden trestle bridge during the train ride between Lahaina and Kaanapali. The train ride used to take you through fields of sugar cane back in the 1970's, but now you follow along a golf course. The train is filled with water to make steam at the Kaanapali station.

The tracks parallel a four lane highway, pass through the backyards of a local neighborhood that is far below the standards of the beach resorts, as the train chugs through a golf course past some commercial warehouses. At the Lahaina depot you get to watch the locomotive detach from the passenger cars and rotate on a turnstile for the return trip.
