Maui Sugar Cane Train The Maui Sugar Cane Train is enjoyed most by two groups of Maui vacationers -
• Railroad enthusiasts like the restored vintage locomotive more than the train ride, which is pretty bland.
• Young children just like riding in a choo choo train with the breeze blowing in their face. This vintage train takes you on a slow paced and relaxing six mile trip between Lahaina and Kaanapali.

Sugar Cane Train - Kaanapali - Lahaina The restored vintage steam locomotives - Anaka and Myrtle are real beauties. You cross a ravine along the train tracks on a wooden trestle bridge during the train ride between Lahaina and Kaanapali. The train ride used to take you through fields of sugar cane back in the 1970's, but now you follow along a golf course. The train is filled with water to make steam at the Kaanapali station. At the Lahaina depot you get to watch the locomotive detach from the passenger cars and rotate on a turnstile for the return trip.
This turnstile is like in San Francisco, where the streetcar gets to the end of the line and rotates on the same type of turnstile to face back to the tracks again. Some of the area along the railroad tracks during the train ride between Lahaina and Kaanapali is not the scenic fields of sugar cane you might be expecting.
At different parts of the trip, the tracks parallel a four lane highway, pass through the backyards of a local neighborhood that is far below the standards of the beach resorts, and follow along some commercial warehouses.
