The Maui Prince Luau is held two nights a week at the Maui Prince Resort in Makena. [Update: This resort had cash flow problems in Fall 2009 due to the economic downturn, has changed ownership, and is now the Makena Beach and Golf Resort).
If you are staying in south Maui, the Drums of Makena luau can save you an hour of driving time to the Kaanapali and Lahaina luaus.
The luau meal is served buffet style - you go to a buffet table and select your own food.
This luau features a Samoan fire knife dancer for the grand finale.
You sit at an individual table rather than at long rows of tables like at some larger luaus.
You are further from the ocean than in some luaus - this is more of a garden setting. You face away from the ocean when viewing the show on the stage.
Unlike some luaus, if it rains, they have the facilities to allow them to move the luau show indoors.
Maui Prince Luau Cost & Schedule
Cost. Expect to pay about $95-$105 for adults, and about half that for children. If you want reserved seating close to the stage, add about $10 per person.
But the Makena Beach and Golf Resort Luau has an option for you to save money - you can skip the luau meal and see the Drums of Makena luau show for only $39.
Few websites list these discounted rate for only the luau show. The this link is temporarily broken and Hawaii Activities is working on it!Drums of Makena Luau page at the Hawaii Activities site clearly prices both the Standard Luau with Dinner - $95 and Show Only - $39 options.
