Lahaina Galleries
Lahaina shopping on Front Street in Maui offers unusual art that we appreciate but can't afford. Even so, we find ourselves touring through the same Lahaina stores year after year while we are doing our normal window shopping on Maui.
The shops and art galleries are here for tourists, so we feel ok wandering through them in our casual clothes.
Wyland Galleries
Because Maui is an island surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, many galleries focus on sculptures with an ocean theme.
A favorite Lahaina gallery for us is Wyland Galleries because of the many beautiful bronze and lucite sculptures of dolphins and whales.
They also display ocean themed paintings in oils, watercolors and sumi ink, as well as some abstract expressionist paintings.
They even offer an affordable giant coffee table book of their art.
Lahaina Banyan Tree Art Show
For a change of pace we visit the arts and crafts shows that are held most weekends and holidays at Banyan Tree Park at the south end of Front Street.
In addition to paintings, there are often local musicians playing, as well as local Hawaiian craftsmen selling their work - some of them create their artwork during the show so you can watch them.
Celibrites: Gallery of Celebrity Fine Art
Another group of galleries such as Celibrites: Gallery of Celebrity Fine Art specialize in famous people. We feel like we are mixing with the stars here.
They have all types of celebrity memorabilia, photographs, albums, and artwork.
How about a bass guitar signed by Paul McCartney? Or art by celebrities such as Mick Fleetwood, Tony Bennett, David Bowie, Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin and John Lennon.
Hard Rock Cafe Gallery
If we had to compare the food with the memoribilia on the walls, we would conclude that the Hard Rock Cafe is a better gallery than restaurant. Sometimes we walk up to the north end of Front Street to this restaurant and view the rock and music memorabilia lining the restaurant walls and ceiling while enjoying one of their extravagant desserts.
Art of Music Gallery
We just can't seem to get enough of celebrity memorabilia, so we also stop by each year at the Art of Music Lahaina gallery. We like to see all the unique collectables from movies, tv, sports, music and history.
Of course, the prices are so high we can't buy anything, but we like to be right next to something that was owned or signed by someone famous that we've only seen on tv or in the movies.
