The Sheraton Kaanapali Sunset Luau overlooks Kaanapali Beach and Black Rock, so you get an upclose look at the sunset torch lighting and cliff diving ceremony.
From your seat at the Sheraton Maui luau, you watch a runner light torches on Black Rock then dive into the ocean.
Seating is at individual tables - no long rows of tables here. The setting is on a pleasant grass lawn just a few steps from Kaanapali beach and Black Rock.
Because you are so close to the beach, the wind may be stronger than in less scenic, but more protected settings.
The first hour is primarily for you to arrive and get settled. There are some Hawaiian goods for sale from local craftsmen. Stage musicians play Hawaiian music.
You can watch the kalua pig get removed from the underground sand oven during the imu ceremony.
Unlike some of the beach luaus where the ocean and setting sun provide a backdrop for the stage, this stage is not on the beach side of the luau grounds.
The Tahitian dancers are always popular because they are so active - lots of motion and background drums.
The tone of the show changes from festive to threatening (in a fun way) with the Fiji warrior dancers. The New Zealand maori warrior dancers continue the Polynesian influence of this luau show.
The Samoan fire knife dancer provides the grand finale for the show.
