After You Land on Maui
• If you pickup a rental car at the Kahului airport, you may want to stop at one of the big box stores such as Costco (on the left just as you leave the airport) and buy some bulk priced groceries and drinks. We also get a bouquet of tropical flowers (very inexpensive!) that Irene arranges when we arrive at our room.
• As you continue on, note any gas station close to the airport. We use the Shell station just a couple blocks from the airport to fill up before we return the rental car at the airport.
• On the last day of your vacation, if your flight time is much later than your lodging checkout time, plan something like shopping (we go to Hilo Hatties in Lahaina and use their free parking with a purchase) or dining. Some travelers use the Maui Seaside Hotel (more of a motel!) - very close to the airport and less than $100 - for one night either when they arrive or before an early flight out of Maui.
